Vic: Man shot several times in front of onlookers

MELBOURNE, April 11 AAP - A man was shot several times in the chest while lining up
to attend an Easter concert in Melbourne's west.

Onlookers watched in horror as the 47-year-old man was shot in front of a church on
Sommerville Road, Yarraville, ambulance officers said tonight.

The victim, who remained conscious, was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital
in a serious but stable condition.

It's understood the gunman was last seen running from the scene shortly after the incident,
which took place about 7.10pm (AEST).

Police are interviewing witnesses at the scene and the armed offenders unit is investigating
the incident.

A police spokesman said there was no indication the shooting was gang related.
