Fed: Punters backing Latham

New Labor leader MARK LATHAM has impressed pundits enough in just a few days at the
helm to have firmed sharply in federal election betting.

A $4 shot when he beat KIM BEAZLEY to replace SIMON CREAN as party leader on Tuesday,
LATHAM's odds have since tumbled into $3 following $20,000 in bets with Centrebet.

Centrebet are the only bookmakers operating a market on next year's election outcome.

While JOHN HOWARD's coalition has not budged from $1.30, it appears Mr LATHAM's early
form has at least encouraged some punters to take a gamble on him about a year out from
the election.
